There is an optimized performance in this voltage regulator because it utilizes the Cut Tape (CT) package. As you can see, this harley voltage regulator contains 8 terminations. There are two types of analog ICs in this voltage regulator 12v: SWITCHING REGULATOR ICs, which are the ones used in older voltage regulator 12vs. The harley voltage regulator is available as a 8-TSSOP (0.173, 4.40mm Width) package to save space.
