The PCA9538ABSHp is a 40-pin CMOS I2C-bus controlled 8-bit I/O expander for 2-Wire, SMBus and PCB adjustment I2C-bus, which provides general-purpose remote I/O expansion for most CISs developed for I2C-bus. The boards also interface with enhancements as a region of a sequential circuit, see likewise PCA9555, PCA9554, and the PCA957x series. It is used as an external I/O expansion device for microcontrollers when additional I/Os are required. The PCA9538ABSHp is available in a TSSOP24 package with 24 I/O pins. Each pin can be configured as an input or output, and can be controlled individually via the I2C-bus. The device can operate from 2.3V to 5.5V and has a maximum I2C-bus frequency of 400kHz. The PCA9538ABSHp is ideal for applications requiring additional I/O expansion such as LED dimming control, GPIO expansion, and keypad scanning.
